Today, I’m thrilled to welcome my beautiful and talented North Carolina friend and writer, Renee Canter Johnson. Please help us celebrate the release of her latest novel, The Haunting of William Gray.
Disclaimer: I am not Jill Weatherholt. Sorry about that and please don’t be disappointed. We all love her warmth and ease of bringing us along for a trip into her world.
My name is Renee Canter Johnson and many of you know me from our blogging tribe. For you, and for those who aren’t familiar with me, I’m sharing a fresh insight into my journey. Thank you, Jill, for allowing me this opportunity while you are busily editing your new novel.
How did I become a writer? That is the question most often asked of me, and the answer is simple. I believe it is innate. I’ve always written.
My earliest memories revolve around reading and writing. I wrote my first novel when I was nine, in pink ink on lined paper. In it, I lived adventures I wasn’t able to outside of the pages. It was a tremendous insight for such a young girl. I didn’t share this novel with anyone, though. Packing it into my little green hard-shell suitcase, it was stuffed into the bottom of the closet. Several years later, my sister threw it all away.
But this was the start of how I would continue to write novels, even after graduating to word processors and finally a computer. It was a private matter between me and the page. I would say, “Aah…the end,” print it, and stuff it into a box in a cupboard.
It took the encouragement of Janet Hulstrand—professor, writer, editor, traveler, blogger—to convince me to open those dusty containers, breathe life into my characters, and send them out on their own journey into the known world. The Haunting of William Gray is my second novel to spring to life with publisher, The Wild Rose Press. Set in Georgetown, South Carolina, it is the story of some unlikely characters being thrust together on a journey to discover if there is a ghost haunting William Gray, and if so, what does he want and how do they rid the estate on Pine Island of his presence?

Favorite Passage:
A long, cold finger wrapped around her cheek. Her heart palpitated in an uneven rhythm, drumming an odd cadence in her chest and causing sweat to bead along her forehead. She was frozen to the ground, unable to make her feet move as the strange wisp made chilly contact.
It moved along her arm and touched her hand as she watched it slipping through her flesh and bone, entering on one side and exiting on the other. A scream formed. It built, silently, and remained without sound, her entire vocal system shutting down.
