There is a belief up here (in the wild north) πŸ™‚ that hummingbirds bring joy and happy-making news. I wish for you and yours a Happy-making Easter Jill πŸ™‚

  15. We haven’t had much luck with the hummingbird feeder. In Palm Springs I had to go on the attack against a swarm of wasps. In Lake Mead one little guy was confused and flew in the RV. We are going to try again. Happy Easter!

    • It takes some patience to attract the hummies, but once they come, they’ll return each year. We’ve found that making our own sugar water, extremely sweet, is better than the store bought food. Having red flowers near the feeder also works well.
Happy Easter to you and your family, Shelley!

  17. Nice shot. Maybe Easter Bunny will bring me a nice camera. I’m not holding my breath, though.

    • Thanks, Eric. Actually, I took the photo with a very old digital camera, nothing fancy. I had to spend a lot of time sitting very close to the feeder until the little guys got used to me.
I hope the Easter Bunny brings you a camera or at least some Peeps. πŸ™‚

Being the heathen that I am, I’m afraid Mr. Bunny will be skipping my place once again. I’m not above stealing some jelly beans from my mother’s house, though!

        Have a happy holiday.

  19. Beautiful photo Jill, wow, I’m stunned by it! I adore hummingbirds and was thrilled to have a feeder outside my kitchen window in the States. Not having them in England, it was always such a novelty for to see hummingbirds, gorgeous birds. Wonderful quote too, and so very true πŸ™‚

      • Jill, that’s great to know! I will have to draw one for you sometime. I have quite a few pictures of hummingbirds myself. The last few summers I have hung three feeders out on our front porch which is long, and we have had as many as 7 on one feeder before! Hummingbirds are awesome. πŸ™‚

      • I would be honored if you drew a hummingbird for me, Patsy.
I became obsessed with hummies several years ago. When I discovered they return to the same feeder each year, I couldn’t believe it. They are amazing creatures. Your hummies must be more into sharing. I’ve rarely seen two feeding at once. Usually one is feeding and he or she will fight off any other visitors. I’ve seen some incredible battles.

      • Great! It will be a nice challenge. I’ve painted one once, but the rest of the painting was terrible; it was when I first started painting watercolors. I like the hummingbird, but not the rest. I am actually looking for a little something different to do to take a break from the sea turtles for a few days.

It is amazing that they return to the same feeders every year. Even though a lot land on one feeder here, they definitely have many battles in order to do so! So I know what you mean there!

      • Well, if you decide to tackle the hummingbird again, that would be great, I’d love to see it. I do love your sea turtles…they look so happy and carefree.
I’m hoping to get some videos of the hummie battles this summer. They get more aggressive as the weather heats up!

      • I did! I started on one last night, but just the basic outlining of it on some tracing paper. I even have a flower picked out to draw for it to be feeding from! πŸ™‚

Our weather was heating up here, but last night we got a huge thunderstorm so it’s only about 50 degrees today! It’s great! The heat here is awful in the summer. I love this weather.

Give the feeder time, it’s definitely a transition period with hummies passing through. That photo was taken last year. We plan to put our feeder out this weekend. We’ve had nice temps but so much rain.

Ugh…the squirrels, they’ve broken 3 of my thistle seed feeders. Thankfully, they don’t bother the hummingbird feeders. I guess they don’t do sugar. πŸ™‚
